3m make's a very good rubing compound, I would use their fine grit compound and rub it on by hand about 6'; x 6'; sections at a time intill you finished the whole shell, then seal it with a good automotive wax.
Keep in mind that gel coat is a polyester plastic and can be worn down to the fiberglass if polished to much, thats why I recomend to do it by hand, but if feel comfortable go a head and use a buffer.What is the best way to polish a gel coated fiberglass shell?
