Can you buy 'gel' polish for your nails?

i get my nails done frequently (acrylic) and always get the 'gel' put on top.

I maintain them at home until my next refill- however when i buff them the 'gel' gets removed.

I asked the nail technician if i can buy the 'gel' (so i can re-do them at home) and she said you will need to first buy the UV nail dryer too because it wont dry without it.

Is this true?? And if so how much are they? where can you buy them from?

I live in Australia.

P.s is there 'gel' you can buy that doesnt need a UV dryer?

thanks heaps guys! Can you buy 'gel' polish for your nails?
A decent UV lamp here in Australia will set you back about $150.

Beauty suppliers will generally only see to licenced beauticians, beauty therapist and nail technicians because of the chemicals in the products.

You can buy them on eBay but there are no guarantees on the products.

You can set the gel in the sunlight but it takes a long time.

If you're having acrylic on why are you having gel put over the top? You need to speak to your nail tech about coloured acrylic powders if it is the different colours you are after. It would make more sense to me for you to have gel enhancements rather than acrylics.

It also sounds like your buffer is too high a grit if it taking the gel off. Although I would also question why you are buffing your nails at all when the gel is what gives them the shiny appearance. Can you buy 'gel' polish for your nails?
Go to your local beauty supply store! Ask them about the UV dryers, you may not need one or you could buy one from them.
no :)
